How to use a balance scale?

Balance scale is a type of measuring instrument that measure the weight of objects by comparing their weights to a previously set of known weights.

This is a sort of measuring instrument which is being used for more than hundred years now. Depending on the model of the balance scale, the beam of the balance scale has got a hanging holding pan on both ends and a scale pan on top. The interesting point about this type of balance scales are that when you want to weigh an object you need to place the object on one pan and the other pan holds the set of standardized weights. You can get the reading of the weight when the horizontal beam reaches to the perfect level.

For using the measuring scale it is important that you know the exact amount of the set of standardized weights that you will put on the pan for weighing an object. For using the weigh machine you need to look for a flat and level surface where you will have to place the measuring instrument to measure something. About one thing you need to be cautious about when you are going to take the weigh reading. It is important that the horizontal beam has is not in motion and is in a perfect level before you get the reading.

Some other things are also needed to be checked once you are getting ready to weigh an object with the balance scale. You should make sure the scale pans do not hold any dust especially when you are weighing the lightweight objects. Make sure you clean the fulcrum point regularly to keep it dust free.

For using the beam balance scale you can follow some simple steps. First of all you need to place the object of which you want to take weigh on one side of the pan of the balance scale. Now it is time to place the known or standardized weigh objects on the other pan of the beam. Add more known weight objects until the beam that is connecting the pans is perfectly level.  Now it’s time to calculate the weight of all the known or standardized objects that are added to the scale pan. The sum of the total weights is the weight of the object that is placed in the first pan.

In this way, you can weigh any object you wish to take weight of. Make sure the horizontal beam is perfectly level and you are sure to get the accurate weight of the object.
