Balance Scale Reviews

How a triple beam balance can help?

triple beam balanceWhen it comes to exacting standards for measurements such as mass in a scientific laboratory, a triple beam balance always comes first. No doubt, the other measuring scales like the graduated cylinder, spring scale, meter stick, ruler are some most important  measuring scales but this wonderful weighing measurement has been a reputed name in the Industry for nearly two centuries. Amazing thing is that a triple beam balance is still the same standard measurement as it was before with little changes from the time of its first manufacture. Triple beam balances have three balance measuring beams and all of these are capable of indicating the weight with the numbering score as the sliders are slid along the length to zero the balance.

Triple beam balances are accurate enough to measure all types of dry and liquid materials. The most common types of triple beam balances are those ones that take the loads on one tray at one end of the scales, and others have pans or weighing trays that are suspended by the wires under the weighing point. At the end of the scale there is an adjustment knob using which you can adjust ‘zeroing’ the scale. You can set the pointer to the level mark on the opposite end of the scale from the weighing point.

The triple beam balance is usually marked off with tens, hundreds or standardized grams. These can also be found in the metric measurements like in kilograms or from tenths of milligrams. You can get the triple beam balances for measuring the heavy loads but you can also get triple beam balance scale meant for extremely delicate measurements.

Triple beam balance meant to be used in the scientific laboratory must have allowances for zero adjustments for the temperature. It is extremely important because when you measure something in scientific laboratory the metals used in the construction can expand and give faulty results especially when you are taking scientific measurements of micrograms or less. The measurement should be read easily and reading a triple beam balance is easy. Another important thing is that the sliders must be functional and smooth in action.

When you want to measure the dry materials it is always better to have options of using a scooped container for pouring in the mixing container. This will need a sort of ‘tare’ beam and you will need to place the container on the scale tray to get the measurement. The weight of the container will be zeroed with the tare beam. When the zeroed level is achieved the materials that are needed to be measured can be placed on the newly zeroed container. This will read the measurement of the dry materials.

If you want to measure the liquids you can also use the triple balance beam but if you want to measure density it is better to choose some other measuring materials. For measuring the liquids you will need to use the good and sturdily built scale otherwise you will get faulty measurement results.

Let’s discuss about one or two models. Ohaus triple beam balance or Ohaus 750-SW Mechanical Triple Beam Balance is one popular model. It includes stainless steel plate weigh pan and the capacity of the model is 2,610 grams x 0.1 gram. American Weigh TB-2610 Mechanical Triplebeam Balance, 2610 by 0.1 G is yet another popular model. It is a traditional triple beam mechanical balance. It has nice white finish outside and it includes a large stainless steel weighing surface. The weigh set allows you to expand the capacity from 610gram to 2610gram.

In almost every scientific laboratory the triple beam balances are used. These are used by pathologists in their measurement of organs and tissue from autopsies and these are used by pharmacists while they are measuring powdered medications. Geologists use these for measuring samples taken from different areas and chemists use these for measuring the dry elements. So, people of all areas get benefited from these measuring devices.
